Sharif El-Mekki

Sharif El-Mekki is a dedicated educator with over 30 years of experience. As a son of activists and an intentional student, he brings a unique perspective to his work. Sharif has had the privilege of developing thousands of educators and speaking on educational justice. From delivering graduation keynote speeches, speaking at SXSW in 2019, 2022, and 2023, to presenting his own TEDx talk and being featured on PBS NewsHour, he has generously shared his experience and expertise. In 2014, El-Mekki founded The Fellowship – Black Male Educators for Social Justice, an organization dedicated to recruiting, retaining, and developing Black male teachers. El-Mekki blogs on Phillys7thWard, is a member of the 8 Black Hands podcast and serves on several boards and committees focused on educational and racial justice. His contributions have been acknowledged with honors like the ASU + GSV 2023 Innovator of Color Award and The 2023 ISTE Impact Award, which recognize his unwavering dedication to making a positive impact in education.
