Chelsea J. Jimenez is a certified early childhood educator and a current PhD candidate in the Urban Education program at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned a B.A. in Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis in Urban Education and research from the University of South Carolina. During her time at USC Columbia, she participated in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, which began her journey in educational research. As a previous student of ESOL and teacher of numerous multiliterate and multicultural classrooms, much of her research focuses on language, literacy, race, power, and educational curricula, practices, law, and policy. More recently, her work within the Center of Urban Education has been focused on Black and Africana studies, anti-Blackness, history, anthropology, and sociology as they relate to linguistics. While her previous work and research largely engaged K-12 education, her more recent focus spans across K-12 and higher education, as well as larger societal implications as it relates to the languages and literacies of the African diaspora.
